A sod-cutting ceremony has been held at Huntado and Behenase in the Bekwai Municipality to officially commence the construction of a safe water project aimed at improving access to potable water for residents.
The ceremony was undertaken through a partnership between an NGO, Safe Water, and the communities, with support from the Municipal Chief Executive of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Hon. Salifu Issaka.
The initiative is expected to address longstanding water challenges in the two communities and contribute to improved public health and sanitation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Salifu Issaka commended Safe Water and the residents of Huntado and Behenase for their collaboration and commitment to the project. He emphasized that access to clean and safe drinking water remains a key priority for development within the municipality.
He further noted that the project aligns with the national agenda under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure universal access to safe water across the country.
Community members were encouraged to support and take ownership of the project to ensure its successful completion and long-term sustainability. The initiative is expected to significantly improve living conditions and reduce waterborne diseases in the beneficiary communities upon completion.
