Bekwai, April 24, 2025 — In a bid to boost digital inclusion and economic empowerment among young women, the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with implementation partners, on Thursday hosted an information session on the Digital Access for Rural Empowerment (DARE) Program at the Municipal Assembly Hall.
The session, which took place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, brought together a diverse group of participants, including unemployed young women, single and teenage mothers, hairdressers, seamstresses, apprentices, bead makers, and persons living with disabilities. The event aimed to raise awareness about the DARE Program and highlight the opportunities it offers to women within the 15–35 age bracket.
The DARE Program is spearheaded by GI-KACE Consult Ltd, UNESCO, and the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), with key support from the Mastercard Foundation. It is designed to equip participants with essential digital literacy, entrepreneurial acumen, and leadership skills, thereby enhancing their employability and income-generation potential.
In her opening remarks, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) of Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Ms. Sheila Rosetta Arthur emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide for women in rural areas. “Empowering young women through digital and entrepreneurial training is not just an economic imperative—it’s a social one,” she stated.
Organizers noted that this session marks a significant step in the rollout of the program within the municipality and encouraged eligible participants to take full advantage of the initiative.
As the DARE Program continues its implementation, more such sessions are expected to be held to ensure broader participation and impact across the municipality.
