A one-day workshop on how to sew reusable sanitary pads was organized on Wednesday, 9th April, 2024 for Girls’ Education and School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinators. The workshop was aimed at equipping participants with practical skills to promote menstrual hygiene management and sustainability in schools.
A total of twenty (20) participants drawn from ten (10) districts across the Amansie, Obuasi, and Adansi zones participated in the training. The districts represented included Bekwai, Amansie South, Amansie Central, Amansie West, Adansi Asokwa, Adansi South, Akrofrom, Obuasi Municipal, Obuasi East, and Adansi North.
The workshop was held at the Anglican Church, Bekwai, and featured hands-on demonstrations by school-based facilitators, who showcased the process of sewing reusable sanitary pads. The Girls’ Education Officer for Bekwai Municipal facilitated and coordinated the programme.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the training and its relevance to addressing menstrual hygiene challenges among schoolgirls. A similar workshop has been scheduled for school-based SHEP and Girls’ Education Coordinators from Wednesday, 8th to Friday, 10th May, 2024 to further extend the impact of the initiative.
