The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, and the Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Leticia Obeng, have visited schools affected by a heavy rainstorm that hit parts of the Bekwai Municipality on Wednesday, 11th February 2026.
The rainstorm caused significant damage to some school facilities, including the removal of roofs and the complete collapse of some classroom structures. The affected schools included Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School, Huntado M/A Basic, Behenase R/C JHS, and Senfi Methodist JHS.
The visit was aimed at gathering firsthand information on the impact of the disaster, assessing the extent of damage caused, and providing support and encouragement to students and staff of the affected schools.
During the visit, the team interacted with school authorities and inspected the damaged facilities to better understand the immediate needs of the schools. A carpenter was immediately deployed to repair the roof of the Huntado M/A classroom block before the team departed from the site.
Following the assessment, Hon. Raff Poku-Adusei, together with the Municipal Director of Education, on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, presented support items to Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School to assist with rehabilitation efforts.
The donation included 100 bags of cement, 10 packets of roofing sheets, and a cash amount of GH¢5,000 towards the restoration of the damaged school facilities. Additionally, the Senior High School Coordinator, Mr. Kingsley Opoku Agyeman, donated GH¢1,000 to support the school.
The intervention forms part of ongoing efforts by stakeholders to restore affected educational infrastructure, ensure a safe teaching and learning environment, and minimize disruptions to academic activities in the affected schools.
The Bekwai Municipal Education Directorate expressed appreciation to the MP, school stakeholders, and all individuals who contributed towards supporting the affected schools and improving education delivery within the municipality.
