The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bekwai, Hon. Issaka Salia Salifu, has engaged the leadership of transport operators in the Bekwai Municipality following recent public concerns over arbitrary increases in transport fares.

The engagement was aimed at addressing the concerns and finding a lasting resolution to the impasse between transport operators and commuters within the municipality.

Addressing the leadership of the transport operators, the MCE expressed concern over the conduct of drivers who continue to impose unauthorized fare increases on passengers, describing the practice as unfair to the people.

Hon. Issaka Salia Salifu acknowledged the challenges confronting the transport sector but stressed that such difficulties should not be used as a basis to take undue advantage of the public through unapproved fare increments.

He called on transport operators and drivers to adhere strictly to approved fares and conduct their operations in a manner that promotes fairness and protects the interests of commuters.

The MCE further indicated that the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the relevant regulatory bodies, would continue to monitor transport operations within the municipality to ensure compliance with approved fares.
