The Bekwai Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) has undertaken a child protection sensitization and Z-fold folder distribution exercise in selected schools within the Municipality to promote child safety and awareness of child protection issues among learners.
The exercise reached four schools, namely Essumeja R/C Upper Primary and JHS, Kokofu M/A Upper Primary and JHS, Bogyawɛ Upper Primary and JHS, and Sanfo-Aduam Upper Primary and JHS, with a total of 1,188 learners comprising 480 boys and 708 girls.
Learners were sensitized on child rights and responsibilities, forms of child abuse and exploitation, bullying, child labour, safe and unsafe behaviours, and reporting mechanisms. They were encouraged to speak up when they encounter situations that threaten their safety and seek support from trusted adults.
As part of the activity, Z-fold child protection folders containing simplified information on safeguarding, children’s rights, and reporting channels were distributed to learners to reinforce the messages delivered during the sessions.
The exercise forms part of SWCD’s efforts to strengthen child protection awareness and promote safe and supportive learning environments within the Bekwai Municipality.
