The Bekwai Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has undertaken a monitoring and supervision exercise in ten day-care centres across the municipality as part of efforts to promote quality early childhood care and ensure compliance with minimum operating standards.
The exercise, conducted on 28th January and 20th February 2026, covered day-care centres in Anwiankwanta, Dominase, Denyase, Asanso, Ofoase Kokoben, Korkyerekrom, Bekwai, Amoafo, and other communities, reaching a total of 946 children. The centres visited included Save Our Lives Foundation, Jajoan International School, Father Abraham Preparatory School, CEBA Preparatory School, Kass Montessori School, Nurtured Souls International School, Law Joe Education, Dankwah Memorial School, Nana Ama Serwaa School, and Crystal Montessori.
The monitoring exercise assessed the general condition of the facilities, cleanliness and hygiene, sanitation, safety and security, quality of care, availability of learning and play materials, adequacy of furniture, record-keeping, and the overall health and welfare of children.
During the visits, officers interacted with proprietors, managers, and caregivers, providing guidance on maintaining safe, clean, and child-friendly learning environments. Operators were also advised to strengthen supervision of children, improve sanitation and hygiene practices, maintain proper records, and ensure that children are treated with care, patience, and respect at all times.
While the exercise found that the centres were providing essential childcare services, it also identified areas requiring improvement, including the need for additional learning materials, improved sanitation facilities, adequate furniture, and continuous capacity-building for caregivers.
The monitoring forms part of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children through regular inspection, technical support, and the promotion of quality standards in early childhood care and development.
