On Tuesday, 26th November 2024, a fuel tanker overturned in Amoafo, a community in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region, raising concerns of a potential disaster.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred in the early hours of the morning. The tanker, which was transporting fuel, skidded off the road and landed on its side. Fortunately, no immediate injuries were reported, but the incident posed a significant risk of fire or explosion due to the highly flammable cargo.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) arrived promptly at the scene to coordinate safety measures. They secured the area, ensuring residents stayed at a safe distance while efforts were made to prevent fuel leakage from escalating into a major hazard.

In a statement, a NADMO representative commended the quick response of the community and emergency teams, which played a critical role in averting what could have been a catastrophic situation.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but preliminary investigations suggest the tanker may have lost balance while navigating a sharp curve. Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the incident.

Residents have been advised to exercise caution and report any fuel leaks or lingering odors in the area to prevent further risks.

This accident highlights the need for stricter safety measures for fuel transport and road safety in the municipality.
