The Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BMA) has supervised a land reclamation exercise at Pepedan as part of ongoing efforts to restore degraded lands affected by irresponsible mining activities within the municipality.

The exercise forms part of the Assembly’s continuous commitment to environmental protection and sustainable land use, particularly in areas impacted by illegal mining (galamsey), which has contributed significantly to ecological degradation.

The initiative aligns with broader national efforts led by President John Dramani Mahama and the government to intensify the fight against illegal mining and restore affected ecosystems across the country.

The Assembly noted that the reclamation exercise represents a key milestone in the municipality’s quest to restore ecological balance, improve land productivity, and ensure environmental sustainability for future generations.

The MCE, Hon. Salifu Issaka, and the Assembly expressed appreciation to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, traditional authorities (Nananom), and the people of the Bekwai Municipality for their support, encouragement, and collaboration in the exercise.

The Bekwai Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to protect the environment and promote responsible land use practices across all communities in the municipality.
