The Bekwai Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), led by the Municipal Director, Mr. Baba Salifu, has embarked on a public education campaign to sensitize traders and the general public on the safe use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in markets and commercial premises across the municipality.
The exercise, held at the Bekwai Central Market, aimed to raise awareness of the potential risks associated with the improper handling and storage of gas cylinders in market centres and shops, where fire outbreaks can have devastating consequences.
Addressing traders and shop owners, Mr. Baba Salifu emphasized the importance of observing basic safety measures, including proper storage and handling of LPG cylinders, regular inspection of gas installations, and the prompt replacement of damaged cylinders and hoses to prevent gas leakages and fire incidents.
He also urged traders to avoid cooking or using gas in unsafe locations within the market and encouraged them to report suspected gas leakages and other fire hazards to the appropriate authorities without delay.
The sensitization formed part of NADMO's disaster risk reduction and public safety initiatives aimed at preventing fire outbreaks, protecting lives and property, and promoting a culture of safety among traders and residents of the Bekwai Municipality.
