The Bekwai Municipal Assembly commemorated Ghana's Independence Day with a colourful and well-attended ceremony at Gyamfi's Park on Friday, 6th March 2026. The event was held under the national theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” reflecting the country’s renewed commitment to growth, unity, and national transformation.
The celebration brought together a cross-section of the municipality, including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Issaka Salifu, traditional authorities (chiefs) from across the Bekwai Municipality, heads of departments, religious leaders, and other distinguished guests. Also present were selected pupils and students from various primary, Junior High Schools (JHS), and Senior High Schools (SHS), whose participation added colour and vibrancy to the occasion.
The programme commenced with a formal parade and inspection of a guard of honour, followed by an impressive march past by the participating schools. The students, neatly dressed in their uniforms, displayed discipline, coordination, and a strong sense of patriotism as they marched before the dignitaries and audience. Awards and commendations were presented to outstanding schools that excelled in the parade.
Adding cultural richness to the celebration were performances by various cultural troupes, who showcased traditional dances and drumming, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the area. Poem recitals by students also formed a key part of the programme, delivering messages of hope, unity, and national pride in line with the theme of the celebration.
In remarks delivered during the event, Hon. Issaka Salifu emphasized the importance of reflecting on Ghana’s journey since independence and called on residents, especially the youth, to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the municipality and the nation at large. He further encouraged citizens to uphold values of discipline, hard work, and patriotism.
