The Bekwai Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) from 27th January 2026 to 18th February 2026 conducted teenage pregnancy sensitization programmes in selected Junior High Schools within the Municipality to educate pupils on the causes, effects, and preventive measures against teenage pregnancy.
The exercise covered ten Junior High Schools, including Denyase Anglican JHS, Kwamang M/A JHS, Asanso M/A JHS, Sanfo-Aduam M/A JHS, Amoafo Presbyterian JHS, Chiransa M/A JHS, Ntinanko M/A JHS, Ntinanko R/C JHS, Bekwai Methodist JHS, and Bogyawɛ M/A JHS, reaching a total of 995 pupils comprising 455 males and 540 females.
The sensitization focused on the causes and effects of teenage pregnancy, responsible decision-making, the importance of education, positive peer influence, parental guidance, personal safety, and the need for pupils to seek support from trusted adults.
Pupils were encouraged to avoid negative influences, make responsible choices, report situations of abuse or exploitation, and remain focused on their education and future aspirations. Teachers and school authorities were also encouraged to provide guidance and support to adolescents.
The programme forms part of SWCD’s efforts to promote child protection, safeguard the wellbeing of adolescents, and strengthen collaboration among schools, families, communities, and relevant stakeholders in addressing teenage pregnancy within the Bekwai Municipality.
