
A stakeholder engagement on the implementation of Climate Change Adaptation Plan in Bekwai municipality was held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Yeguaa International Hotel Conference Hall. The event brought together key actors in climate governance, local development, and community-based adaptation to discuss the rollout of the municipal plan.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Ms. Sheila Rosetta Arthur, delivered the opening remarks. She emphasized the urgency of climate action at the local level and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to sustainable development.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Acting Director in charge of Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation at the Climate Change Department of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ghana, presented the purpose of the meeting. He highlighted the strategic importance of integrating climate adaptation into municipal planning and development processes.
Providing technical insight into the plan’s development and implementation strategies, Dr. Robert (Bob) O. Manteaw, Senior Research Fellow at the Sustainability Transitions / Climate Adaptation & Sustainable Development Governance, took participants through the adaptation plan. His presentation detailed the collaborative process that informed the plan and its expected outcomes in enhancing local climate resilience.
A screening of a climate communication product followed, aimed at raising public awareness and community involvement in the adaptation agenda.
Two key bodies were officially inaugurated during the engagement: the Municipal Climate Change Desk Office Team and the Implementation Technical Committee. These teams are expected to play central roles in coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the progress of the plan's implementation.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also officially presented climate communication materials to the Bekwai Municipal Assembly. The Municipal Planning Officer received the materials on behalf of the Assembly.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah returned to deliver the closing remarks, commending stakeholders for their active participation and encouraging sustained collaboration for climate resilience in the municipality.
The engagement was well-attended by representatives from the EPA, the Presiding Member of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Hon. Kofi Asante Bruce, selected Assembly Members, Heads of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) groups, and various Heads of Departments from the Bekwai Municipal Assembly.
The stakeholder session marked a significant step in Bekwai's journey toward climate resilience, reinforcing the role of inclusive planning and shared responsibility in the face of climate change.
