The Bekwai Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development conducted a child abuse sensitization programme across ten communities in the municipality between 20th January and 18th February 2026 as part of efforts to promote child protection and increase public awareness on children's rights and welfare.
The exercise covered the communities of Essumeja, Asamang, Abodom, Ofoase-Kokoben, Asakyiri, Poano, Oseikrom, Ahwiren, Kwamang, and Amoamo, reaching a total of 1,931 participants, including parents, teachers, traditional leaders, religious leaders, opinion leaders, women and youth groups, and other community members.
Participants were educated on the various forms of child abuse, their effects on children's development, child protection laws, positive parenting practices, and the importance of promptly reporting suspected abuse cases to the appropriate authorities. The programme also encouraged communities to support children's education, protect vulnerable children, and work collectively to create safe and child-friendly environments.
