ADDRESSING CHILD LABOUR: A COMPREHENSIVE SEMINAR BY THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

On the Friday, 15th of September, 2023, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BMA) organized a seminar on child labour, focusing on its causes, effects, prevention, and intervention. The seminar took place at Dinkyiniso within the Bekwai Municipality and was facilitated by Mr. Ibrahim Antwi, the Head of Social Welfare and Community Development of BMA.

The seminar aimed to address the pressing issue of child labour prevalent in the Bekwai Municipality and to educate community members on the detrimental impacts it has on children and society as a whole.

Mr. Antwi commenced the seminar by providing an overview of child labour, highlighting its various forms and the factors contributing to its prevalence within the municipality. He emphasized that poverty, lack of education, and societal attitudes were among the primary drivers of child labour in the area.
